The priests who served the god Tepoztecatl, as well as their helpers, lived in houses located on the
terraces that were constructed on the side of the hill. In the main room, a vessel with a representation of
the god Xochipilli was found. The principal identifying attribute is the butterfly drawn around his mouth.
Xochipilli, in the Mesoamerican cosmogony, was the young god of maize, food, procreation and pleasure.
According to Fray Bernardino de Sahagun, Xochipilli was worshipped by people who lived in the palace, an
assertion that is congruent was found in the house where the priests lived.
EN ESPANOL : Los sacerdotes al servicio del dios Tepoztecatl asi como sus ayudantes, vivian en casas
localizadas en las terrazas construidas en el lado este del cerro. En la habitacion principal, se encontro
una vasija con la representacion del dios Xochipilli, el principal atributo que lo identifica, es una mariposa
dibujada alrededor de su boca. Xochipilli, en la cosmogonia de Mesoamerica, era el dios joven del maiz,
de los alimentos, de la procreacion y del placer. De acuerdo son Fray Bernardino de Sahagun, Xochipilli
era adorado por la gente que vivia en los palacios, esto corresponde con el lugar donde fue depositada la
vasija que identificaba la casa donde vivian los sacerdotes.
