The above photo is of the temple for the wind god, Ehecatl / Quetzalcoatl. It is known as the Round
Pyramid which is the archaeological zone's landmark. It's one of the most beautiful buildings of the
pre-hispanic architecture in Western Mexico. The round monument measures 80 feet in diameter and is
over 13 feet high. It was originally a filled in cylinder or drum whose vertical walls were crowned by a
parapet with cross shaped openings, with five stairways. On the top of the structure, it has two rectangular
shrines.
EN ESPANOL: La Piramide Circular es la estructura mas importante de la zona arqueologica y que
constituye uno de los edificos mas bellos de la arquitectura prehispanica en el Occidente de Mexico. El
monumento es de planta redonda, con 24m. de diametro y 4m. de altura. Originalmente fue un cilindro de
paredes verticales a manera de un tambor compacto coronado por un pretil perforado por troneras en
forma de cruz, con cinco escaleras. En la parte superior hay dos adoratorios de planta rectangular. El
edificio se conoce como monumento a Quetzalcoatl o Ehecatl, debido a sus caracerteristicas y elementos
arquitectonicos.
