The above and the two photos below are of the Northern Ball Court. Both the Northern and Eastern Ball
Courts were associated with the ceremonial area. The court or "Teotlachco", was a religious enclosure in
which the rite of fire as a cult of the earth or of fertility, was carried out. It deals with a sacred area in which
two forces confront each other and favor the reproduction of the group. The shape of the Ball Court is
unique. It is composed of a slope which ends with an upright adornment, in which the two hoops or
"Tlachtemalacatl" are embedded.

After you walk past the Northern Ball Court, you will see the first visible cave entrance. Entry is not allowed
into this particular cave.

Water, particularly rain water, was of
great importance for the Xochicalco
society. During the rainy season, a
great deposit captured the water
which fell in the courtyard associated
with the Temazcal. The water was
channeled towards the stairs by
means of a drainage ditch, where it
dispersed forming a beaufiful fan,
until it fell into the cistern. When it
was full, a plus was opened and the
water flowed by way of another
drainage ditch to different storage
locations.
almacenamiento.
