The above picture shows several caves at Xochicalco. The caves on the right hand are either blocked or
locked. The stairway on the left hand side leads to a cave which has a small observatory of the sky. You
can only enter this observatory during certain hours of the day.
A closer look at the caves. You can enter the cave observatory from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The time limit is 15
minutes and groups are limited to 40 people.
EN ESPANOL: Horario del Observatorio, 10:00 a 1:00 Hrs. Tiempo de permanencia 15 minutos. Grupos
de 40 personas maximo.

The above photo was taken from inside the manmade cave. It has an solar observatory at the end of the
cave. The solar observatory has a hexagonal opening through which you can observe the passing of the
sun its its movement towards the Tropic of Cancer and its return. This occurs between May 14-15 and July
28-29. During this time, the astro is in its zenith at the astronomical midday.
This is a photo looking up into the observation point. The light that enters into the opening gives a really
unique and interesting light inside the dark cave.
